What can latex elastics be used for?
The small elastics can be used in several ways:
- To keep the ends of new dreadlocks together while the hair has time to settle
- For small braids and braided extensions
- To temporarily keep loose hairs together around new dreadlocks
- As an aid during the creation and maintenance of dreadlocks
On new dreadlocks, a loosely placed elastic can help keep the hairs together while the dreadlock matures. At the ends, the elastic can help prevent the hair from unraveling before it has had a chance to dread properly.
How to use elastics at the roots
It is important that the elastic is never tight.
The hair must still be able to move so it can tangle and form the knots that cause the dreadlock to develop. The elastic should therefore only be tight enough to stay in place.
You should be able to move the elastic slightly up and down the dreadlock without pulling the hair.
Place it approx. 1 - 2 cm from the scalp - never right at the root. If the elastic pulls, tugs, or hurts, it is too close or too tight and must be loosened or removed.
When washing your hair, the elastics may move towards the scalp. Always check the placement after washing and move them back once the hair is dry.
Important information about latex elastics
Latex can break down upon contact with oil and grease. Therefore, avoid using the elastics in areas where you apply hair oil or other oil-based products.
Elastics should also be used as a temporary aid and checked regularly so they do not remain in place for too long or become tangled in the hair.
